Those onions are slightly sweet and perfectly caramelized. They are the perfect garnish for your burgers or even to add a bit of color to your avocado toasts.
Red Wine Caramelized Onions

Ingredients
- 2.5 lb of Spanish onions, about 3 big onions
- 2 tbsp of vegetable oil
- 2/3 cup of red wine
- 2 tbsp of maple syrup
- 1 tsp vegan Worcestershire sauce , optional
- Salt & pepper to taste
Instructions
- Cut the onion in half, then slice thinly to about 3 mm.
- In a cold pan, put the onion and the oil and cover with a lid .
- Open the fire to medium-low heat and stir from time to time so the onions don't burn in the bottom of the pan.
- Once the onion are soft and slightly golden, about 30 minutes, bring the heat up to medium-high and deglaze the pan with the rest of the liquids.
- Cook until all the wine is evaporated.
